There are two ways to understand Modern Wood Furniture. One is Modern, and the other is Wood.
First, Modern Furniture. Modern wood furniture usually was first coined in the 19th century based on the concept modernism. It is a brand new concept as opposed to the Decorative Arts furniture which was traditional before it including Art Nouveau, Neoclassical, and Victorian styles.
The philosophy of Modern Furniture is to produce simple, accessible, easier to produce design that is affordable to everyone. The modernism ideals shifts the designs to promote functionality, accessibility, and simplicity. As opposed to consider furniture as an ornament that will take time to create.
Secondly, on the other hand, Wood Furniture. Wood furniture is straight forward, it means all the furniture that are made of wood. It could be hardwood, softwood, plywood, manufactured wood. In most cases it is referred to hardwood or solid wood furniture. Solid wood usually means ordinary lumber, as opposed to Engineered wood. Engineered wood are manufactured wood by creating composite wood using wood strands, adhesives, fibers. Plywood is a good example of Engineered wood. Solid wood also refers to wooden material that has solid space, instead of hollow space, most commonly are the indoor room doors.
So "Modern Live Edge Wood Furniture" can be an oxymoron. On one hand, we want to look for simple, accessible, and "mass produced" furniture to represent Modern. On the other hand, most high quality wood furniture are solid wood furniture which requires high level of skills of woodworking to make them.
